Guidance on taking care of your skin prior to your wedding day

Welcome to my skin care advice section. I understand the significance of your wedding day and the desire to look your best. I have curated a collection of useful tips and tricks to help you achieve radiant, healthy skin. Following my guidance can help you look glowing on your special day.

As tempting as it may be to dash out and binge-purchase every product in sight, take some time to evaluate what your skin needs. Setting specific goals for yourself, whether that’s reducing acne/pimples, increasing radiance or simply hydrating your skin, will ultimately allow you to create a routine that makes sense for you and puts you on track toward an attainable skin-care plan for your wedding day.

Keeping track of the timeline leading up to your wedding is also a crucial aspect of creating a pre-wedding skin-care plan. You want the benefits of all your products and treatments, while making sure none of the possible negative side effects pop up on the big day.

Depending on the specific concerns you are addressing, the time to see visible results may vary. Typically, results are best noticed after 28 days of following your routine because this is how long it takes for new skin cells to form. Around four months after diligently following your routine, you should notice a change in your skin.

MOISTURISERS:

You should be able to see a change in your skin with immediate effect, especially if you have one with hyaluronic acid, which does a great job at instantly plumping, smoothing, and hydrating the skin.

You won't begin to really see an improvement if you have dry or flakey skin until about 2-weeks of consistent use. Adding moisturizer into your daily skin care routine is a quick way to a more plump, soft complexion.

SERUMS:

Can help minimise fine lines, reduce the appearance of dark spots, and improve overall skin tone and texture when used over a 3-4 month period.

EXFOLIATION:

If your concern is acne, it may take up to 8 weeks to see an improvement in the condition of their skin. For anti-aging benefits, it may take even longer to see the results. In general, consistent and regular exfoliation is important for maintaining the benefits of exfoliation.

For people with dry or sensitive skin, exfoliating twice a week is the maximum frequency recommended. You may want to exfoliate only once a week or even every other week if you use products that can cause dryness and irritation, such as retinoids.

FACIALS:

If regular facials are something you are planning to integrate into your pre-wedding skin care routine you should start looking for a beautician or dermatologist about six months in advance. With six months of working with a skin care specialist, they can really get to know your skin, perform multiple treatments, and help resurface and smooth your complexion. But it becomes more difficult as we approach the two to three month mark.

Facial menus can range from acne extraction, microcurrent for lifting and sculpting, LED therapy, and so much more. Before booking your first treatment, it’s important to research your potential specialist and ensure that they are experienced in an area that aligns with your skin goals. Depending on your budget and the severity of skin concerns, you can then work together to create a facial schedule in advance of your wedding, for some, this could be frequent biweekly facials, and for others, it might be occasional treatments every couple of months.

If considering professional facials before your wedding day, I would suggest starting this around 6-12 months before your wedding date and schedule your last treatment at least a month before your wedding.

EYELASHES:

Eyelash extensions need at least 24 hours to set and some people find that the lashes can start shedding as early as two weeks. Scheduling your appointment with a local lash technician anywhere from three to seven days before the wedding will ensure they are in tip-top shape.

BROWS:

Tinting lasts anywhere from 3-8 weeks and will gradually fade as your brow grows out. For the freshest color, doing a tint one to two weeks before the wedding is recommended. Doing a 'trial tint' to ensure the perfect color is recommended a month or six weeks before the wedding.

If you've had your brows waxed before and have a trusted brow professional and you haven't seen any adverse reactions from getting waxed in the past then go for it a week from your wedding (at least). Otherwise, stick with your trusty tweezers and trimming scissors instead.

Waxing can take away the very fine, fair hairs from your eyes below the brows, eye shadow sits differently on this area compared to the rest of your eye.
